Safe, Legal and Rare

A little bit of sanity from a group of DEmocrats that is usually "over the top". About a month ago the Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) announced its 95-10 plan.

It would help work towards the Democratic goal of making abortions "safe legal and rare." without endangering a woman's choice on healthcare. This is by far the most comprehensive effort by Democrats and DFLA specificaly to actually make progress on the life issue. It blends economic and health related policy from funding WIC programs to avoiding unwanted pregnancies.

Here is a brief summary:
*update abortion data
*change health care laws making prgnancy a preexisting condition
*take care of our woman and children by:
       *funding WIC
       *increasing healthcare to single parents
*provide counseling to pregnant woman
*make adoption tax credit permanant (encouraging woman to choose adoption over abortion)
*Include contraception coverage to insurance
*Talk about avoiding pregnacy in age appropriate sex-ed

As a pro-life Dem I am usually put off by DFLA as over the top but am impressed with this effort. I am excited by this effort (and would even donate money if i wasn't a poor college student).

I think everyone should take a look at it and really consider the intiative. It looks a lot liek the things we have been arguing about on Kos for a while now. It still protects the woman's rigth to choose that many advocate here while promotinbg change to the socio-economic conditions often leading to abortions.

Even if it is not this plan specifically we need to consider these types of solutions to prove Republicans fo not have a "monopoly on moralty". Using a plan similar to 95-10 will allow Democrats to promote many of our other important economic goals as well.

I am pleasantly surprised with DFLA's effort on this front.
